Growing up in Muswellbrook in the NSW Hunter Region with her mum and five younger brothers and sisters, she caught the media bug early in life, volunteering in community radio while in high school. After leaving school, she worked as an advertising cadet at the Australian Financial Review before leaving to complete a journalism degree.  She attended Sydney's University of Technology where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, majoring in Journalism.
